"Are You a Pointy Head, a Flattop, or a Perfect Square?" Gregorc Mind Styles
If you haven't encountered Dr. Anthony Gregorc and Cynthia Tobias's ideas, you have missed an opportunity to shed light on the mysteries of life. It's so easy to forget that other people may learn differently from the way you do. The knowledge of mind styles combines common sense, research, intuition and perception. Richard & Karen will provide you a stimulating look at the way our minds function.
Dr. Anthony Gregorc's Mind Style delineator will be presented with fact, humor and modeling by Dr. Richard and Karen Jensen. Research based information as to how and why we learn and interact as we do in our daily lives will be presented. It gives deep insight into ourselves as well as others we work and live with, leaving the audience with a greater appreciation of themselves and others.
Concepts discussed:
- Learn about and become accepting of differing mind styles
- Learn about our own work style preferences
- Recognize the importance of differing styles on a team
"I am honored to have my model used and tested by Dr. Jensen. My experience as a graduate professor exposed me to very few colleagues who directly lived what they taught. Dr. Jensen is one of those rare few. He is an authentic person and I commend him to you."
Dr. Anthony F. Gregorc, President, Gregorc Associates, Inc.
Stress Management
- Differentiate between useful stress and distress
- Teach the five tests for rational thinking
- Identify effective stress reduction methods
"Living, Loving, Learning, Laughing, and Leaving a Legacy"
These five categories provide a way of looking at the challenges and rewards of teaching. Dr. Richard Jensen weaves the philosophical, psychological, and pedagogical theories into a practical and humorous look at teaching."How Can They Be Right, Too?"
Great preparation for dealing with students, parents, community, and fellow staff whose views do not coincide perfectly with ours. Useful information and perspectives for keeping a positive and light look at our daily challenges. Complete thoughts from incomplete sentences.
The Holes in the Head Theory
Dr. Albert Ellis defines rational thought in a potentially life-changing manner. The basic emphasis is on the premise that stupidity is a human invention. Richard and Karen will share with you the 11 most common irrational beliefs in our culture. By determining these behaviors and beliefs you can find ways to identify and plug the "holes in your head". Because whether we admit it or not, we are all a little neurotic.
Attitude: it's Your Choice
The good, the bad, and the ugly attitude; where do you fall? Our greatest possession and our biggest homework assignment is our attitude. Have you given yourself too much latitude with your attitude? Richard will uncover ways that you can create a fun and positive attitude for a better life.

Principles that Cross Genders and Generations
For twenty-two years Richard taught a class entitled "Encouraging Discouraged Learners." This course has been videotaped and viewed by more students than any other course at Western Oregon University (WOU). Along with other classes on motivation, counseling, secondary classes and elementary classes, Richard has presented material on a wide variety of topics for audiences that vary from pre-school to AARP.
One of the Key Elements is Maintaining a Sense of Humor
Throughout all of these experiences Richard has learned that he has a lot to learn and a lot to share. Principles can be placed on continuum lines indicating their effectiveness at various stages of development. The material that he shares will be principles that cross genders and generations. Throughout all of this one of the key elements has been maintaining a sense of humor. Their motto is "laugh while you learn, learn while you laugh." Affect is crucial in the learning process. Anyone who works with people under stress knows the importance of laughter and tears.
A Multi-Media Approach
Karen and Richard use a multi-media approach with lecture, lecture-discussion, overheads, cooperative learning groups, videotapes, and notes. Handouts will feature the key content.
